Load errors when creating a new project in 4.9

Whenever I create a brand new project I get this error:
/Game/FirstPersonBP/Maps/FirstPersonExampleMap : Failed import for SkeletalMeshComponent /Game/FirstPersonBP/Blueprints/FirstPersonCharacter.FirstPersonCharacter_C:SkeletalMesh_GEN_VARIABLE

I restarted the editor and now I get that error plus this one:

/Game/FirstPersonBP/Maps/FirstPersonExampleMap : Failed import for SkeletalMeshComponent /Game/FirstPersonBP/Blueprints/FirstPersonCharacter.FirstPersonCharacter_C:SkeletalMeshComponent_8_FC42DFE8

I think this is a bug report, but since it points at the Blueprints folder, I chose this Blueprints section.

I don’t know if it’s causing bigger problems. But so far I can’t use any keyboard actions.

Hi makhras,

In the Unreal Engine Launcher, in the Library tab navigate to the 4.9 version of the launcher and in the dropdown menu (the arrow beside the Launch buttone) select Verify. This will check for and reinstall any directories that have been misplaced or otherwise become corrupt.

Try this first and let me know if it resolves the issue.

Thanks

Dear , I have exactly the same problem, and running the Verify did not help. I get the same error message the first (create) and the second time I start the project:

Error /Game/FirstPersonBP/Maps/FirstPersonExampleMap : Failed import for SkeletalMeshComponent /Game/FirstPersonBP/Blueprints/FirstPersonCharacter.FirstPersonCharacter_C:SkeletalMesh_GEN_VARIABLE

I can run and shoot though.

the same error appears to me. Has anyone found a solution?

I have the same problem on my Windows7. I reinstall entire engine, after that selected verify. This error still exist.

In additon to uninstalling UE4 using “Uninstall a Progam” from the Control Panel, can you verify that you also deleted the 4.9 directory: typically C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.9. Otherwise during the reinstall process the installer will skip over existing/corrupt files.

4.9.1 default FirstPersonExampleMap every time I creat a new one

it will show me this

win7

WuRuiHeng,

This issue has been reported as JIRA [UE-20712] and is in the process of being fixed. I will update this post when this has been corrected. -thanks

This issue has been reported as JIRA [UE-20712]. However if you are not able to use this template at all due to this error, please let me know. -Thanks

I am also having this issues with this. Is there no solutionyet?

So the complete re-install does not work? Oh boy…

*In order to avoid further confusion, I erased some troubleshooting steps posted earlier that included reinstalling the engine before it was understood where the problem originated and that it had been reported as JIRA [UE-20712]. Doing so inadvertantly erased a few users comments that were linked to those steps.

Sorry for the inconvenience and feel free to repost if your comment was deleted.

Reinstalled, Made sure folder was deleted, and still get the error on 4.9 FPS Template. validate data shows no issues.

Error /Game/FirstPersonBP/Maps/FirstPersonExampleMap : Failed import for SkeletalMeshComponent /Game/FirstPersonBP/Blueprints/FirstPersonCharacter.FirstPersonCharacter_C:SkeletalMesh_GEN_VARIABLE

*that was to say reinstalling the engine would not fix this issue. This has been fixed in UE 4.10

Seems the only work around that I am aware of that I made up myself, is to create a 4.8 project and convert to 4.9.2 not sure that is really best way, but at least error when loading it up is not there

well if u convert weapon model isn’t attached
