VR mode not working anymore in 4.9.1

VR mode suddenly stopped working for me in 4.9.1. The blue light on my DK2 and the camera goes on (though not always), but the screen remains black. The game window on my monitor does not show a stereoscopic view, but a centered square viewport (as if it’s the output of one eye) without distortion postprocessing, and runs at 1-4 frames per second. It happens on all projects, including new empty projects. The 4.8.3 version I have installed is still working correctly. The strange thing is, I updated to 4.9.1 yesterday and I’m pretty sure it worked fine after updating. The problems started today. I reinstalled 4.9.1. to see if that would make a difference, but it didn’t. I’m going to grab 4.9.0 from GitHub now to see if that still works.

Another thing that’s maybe related: after using VR preview mode I can no longer tilt the camera using the mouse in “Selected viewport” mode, but I can still pan it. When I restart the engine I can tilt again.

Build version: 4.9.1-2689999+++depot+UE4-Releases+4.9 (4.9.1 downloaded from launcher)
Specs: Windows 8.1, Geforce GTX 780, i7-4930K, Oculus 0.6.0 Runtime

Edit: forgot to add, this is in Direct Mode. Extended Mode seems to work although it’s capped at 60fps and jittery.

Hello dmeffert,

I have a couple of questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. What version of the oculus runtime are you using?
  2. If you close out all other tabs (excluding the main tab) and then try VR, do you still have this issue?
  1. 0.6.0.0
  2. Yes

I just tried the latest Oculus 0.7.0.0 runtime and everything works fine now. For some reason I thought we couldn’t yet use 0.7.0.0 with UE4, which is why I didn’t update the runtime, but all seems well.
