I’ve read several posts here that the Mac Media Player and AV Foundation Framework isn’t as complete and working as well as the Window’s counterpart. I’m assuming this is probably still true since I have many problems working with the Media Player on Mac. Will there be more work on this soon?

When I load and playback video in the Media Player Editor, I encounter strange behavior such as looping doesn’t work and when the clip hits the end, the player controls gray out and won’t let you play again even if you rewind or scrub the timeline. Also, if you scrub forward or backward you hear the right audio playing, but the video freezes until a bit later when it finally starts playing again later in the clip. As if it had to cache or something.

Similar behavior occurs when controlling the Media Player from Blueprint Code. The audio will play fine but the video will be stuck until later and will finally start playing isync with the audio. This usually occurs the second time you try to play the video. Sometimes restarting the editor helps, or letting the video play all the way to the end then rewinding.

I’ve tried several different video codecs, .mp4 and AppleProRes… I’m sure I can try more… In each case the video plays back smoothy and at good frame rates when it decides to work and stays frozen when not. the file size doesn’t seem to matter or even the clip resolution, I tried two clip sizes at 720p and 1080p.

I’ve tried many of the suggestions from other posts such as setting frame rate to 1 and turning off looping in the Media Player Editor and just controlling it in code.
Thanks for your help and advice,
