Lighting Problem (I think).

Is the lightmass importance vol. covering the whole playable area? And can you provide some screenshots(or a video if possible) please?

I’m developing a 3D roll-a-ball game. It is centered around the player overcoming difficult situations, keeping balance etc… Long story short: its not computationally demanding.

The problem:

When i play the game and move throught the level on specific places it starts lagging to the extend of becoming unplayble. Like literally i stop moving no matter how hard or long i hold the W,S,A,D… but i can jump with no problem.
These unplayble places are typically when there are shadows or even when there aren’t any shadows but when i have passed shadows. Now in the particular place there are like 5-6 dynamic objects that make shadows but my PC is powerful enoght to handle this. I have used Lighmass Importance Volume and Kill ZVolume to reduce this and althoght it’s slightly more playable, the problem still occurs. Also i have built the lightning.

Any ideas where this is coming from?
Thanks to everyone.

This is the section where i get the problem - Screen 00000

I start here i start moving without problems - Screen 00001

Still moving with no problems - Screen 00002

And when i roll up the ramp and into this place the horrors starts. I dont know if it lag or what exacly happens but i move extremley hard or dont move at all. But i can jump without a problem - Screen 00004

And here everything is ok, if i ever get to this place - Screen 00005

Strange. I dont think it is lighting related though, it sounds more like a collision issue. What does the collision bounds of that mesh(the floor that starts to lag) look like? What happens if you replace it with another mesh? nd what does the collision look like in game?(you can use the console command show collision to see that)

There is nothing special about the collision. I’ve replaced it, moved it up and down and still get the same result. Only when i get far away it starts to get better as if there is a zone which is “buggy” or something. And the only reason i suspect it is lightning related is because when i put 1-2 objects more i the air and their shadows fall on that last platform the problem becomes worse when i come close to the shadows.

Is it possible for you to share a project with that specific level?

Yes, but how do do you prefer?
GitHub, Skype?

Github should do i suppose, otherwise you can use dropbox or google drive.

Can you give me your email. I’ll share via Dropbox.
