Visual Artifacts, 4.9.1, bright specular spots

So I am having this problem, little white spots(see photo),

This was not a problem in 4.8, and I actually have this problem normally if Temporal AA is disabled. But this shot and the problems that have been happening are while temporalAA is on. So I’d have to guess it has something to do with a change in the temporal AA, I read that tyher was some change to the dithering. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Hello Shephard47,

I would like some more information in order to narrow down what is causing this issue.

1.) You mentioned that this was not a problem in 4.8. Is this a project that has been copied from 4.8 to 4.9? Did you copy your copy in place?

2.) I notice a bit of trailing around the chair. Is this project made for VR?

3.) Does this happen in any other projects? For instance can you open a clean blank project and then see the same result recreating all of your other steps?

After I have this information I will look into what is causing the white lines around your geometry.

Thank you,

Thanks for responding.

1: I cloned the project first and then copied in place. So I do have a backup of the 4.8.

2: Not a VR project, not even sure what you mean by trailing:). I did turn bloom entirely off for this though just to make sure it wasnt some sort of bloom error.

3: Does happen in other project but doesnt happen with every object, but anything with a low roughness that has a roughness map…plain jane low roughness object without a roughness map does not.

This problem gets amplified by turning off Temporal AA, and seems like the same sort of problem as when its turned off…just worse.

Hello Shephard,

Just to check one more thing. If you could copy and not copy in place does this problem still happen? We specifically give a warning against copying in place. I just want to make sure it wasn’t an issue when moving projects.

Thanks,

Yeah I can do that it’ll take a minute…I don’t normally because I’m setup on dropbox with that specific folder, cloning than copying in place normally the easier route and has been fine 4.0 to 4.8, but hey ill give it a go, Ill let you know once its done.

Hello Shepherd47,

I was wondering if you had a chance to test copying rather than copying in place?

Thanks,

Sorry got side tracked, yes i did get it done and tested it out…but still the same effect in 4.9, it still feels like whatever was done to the temporal.

Hey Shepherd47,

Thank you for testing this. I do know that the dithering methods was changed from 4.8 to 4.9. I am going to try and recreate this issue in a test project and see if I can recreate those high specular areas.

If that doesn’t work, would you be willing to link a dropbox of your .uproject, your content and config folders? That way I can test with your unique assets and scene.

Hey Shepherd47,

I was unable to recreate what you see in your scene. Would you be willing to link a copy of your project?
