My clouds are bright at night

I am having trouble with my clouds getting bright and dark when I move my camera when it is dark. I have been looking all over the internet for a solution and I hope some one here is able to help me to fix the problem. Here are some screen shots to help you understand what I am saying.

POKE I was wondering if any one has any information to share to help me fix the cloud lighting problem. Seems to only happen when it is night time.

Hey tech1187,

So, there is an option to change the clouds opacity to make them less obvious. Interesting that it only happens at night.

Hay ,

I wish to thank you for the response. If I may, I wish to ask you where I can locate the option to make that adjustment. Odd thing is, if you look at the photos I posted, you will see that the clouds and location is at the same location. Only difference is, I just move the camera either direction just a tad and the clouds will turn from dark to light and vice-versa. will the option you speak of help to correct this? Thanks again!

Click on your sky sphere in your world outliner. In the sphere’s details panel there is a section labeled default. In that section there is tab called Cloud Opacity. By default it is set to 1.0. Set that down to something like .1 and see if that fixes the bright clouds.

Sorry to respond back a bit late. I wish o thank you for the response and the info. Sure done the trick on that part. Now I only have one more problem almost the same as the one above, but now it deals with the particle effects of the clouds. Not talking about the sky sphere this time. Any tips for this part? Thanks again.

If you would post a screenshot of that so I can get a better idea of what your seeing. You are saying the particle effects are now too bright?

, thanks again for responding and forgive me for not posting a photo for you. Yes, the clouds I am using are for the fog affects in my land and they appear to be bright all the time at night rather than dark as if you would see them at night as in real time.

Here is a pic of what I see.

I set up a test with the default steam particle. What I believe is happening is that your light is hitting a translucent surface at an angle that allows for the reflection of light.

Here is a screenshot that shows the steam at night with the light behind the camera.

As you can see the steam is catching the light and at this angle it allows for the reflection of light back at the camera.

This is a screenshot of the steam when the light is in front and allowing light to pass through the material.

I was able to adjust the opacity of this particles material in order to reduce the amount of reflection I was seeing. Although, this is a little counter intuitive as you would need to adjust them back if you ever wanted your scene to have daylight.

If this is not a viable solution could you create a test project and link a dropbox here. I will keep working on this at that time.

Hello, sorry so late to respond. Had a bit of issues to attend to that needed to be taken care of. I also had figured this part out before I asked in this forum. Sorry again I did not mention that to you. You did bring up a few things here that sparked a light a bit but I may be wrong too. I had currently removed the particle clouds from my landscape and noticed that the lighting is about half of what it would be during the bright hours of the day, perhaps a little less than that. Could it be possible it may also have something to do with the moon lighting as well? Yes, I do have both sun and moon lighting markers on my project. Possible a section in my blueprint as well? Just a thought.

It could possibly be the source light of the moon causing this. It could also be a section of your blueprint. Without your unique project it will be hard to tell. Definitely start looking here first and see what you can come up with.
