Depth of field issue in UE 4.9.2

Hi guys,
After upgrading from 4.9.1 → 4.9.2 our Depth of field post process effects disappeared.
We checked everything, nothing was wrong from our side.
After searching for the same cases, I found 2 other guys having the same problem.
Is someone from Epic games can answer my question ? Is it a bug or changing in use of post process volumes?
Thanks
Sourena

Hi Sourena -

There were no changes between 4.9.1 and 4.9.2 that affected any of the post process rendering pipeline. Can you share your DoF setup so I can see if I can identify the issue directly?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your quick respond. Actually our game was OK in 4.9.1, after switching to 4.9.2, we ware unable to see DOF effect.
It took about 1 day to find out the problem. After resetting all settings in camera post process component and define new values, we can see it again.
Resetting all settings is really necessary,(by clicking on little yellow arrow button in from of Post Process Settings).
After that we realise that it works just on one of our computers (which is running on win 7) the other computer which is running on Win10 is not showing us DOF effect. and the same PC showing DOF effect with version 4.9.1 We are a bit confused about the results. As you can see on below images, settings are same but result in different versions are not same.

Version 4.9.1 it works normally.

Version 4.9.2 it doesn’t work.

All the best

Hi Sourena -

Try going into your Config Folder of your project and look at the rendering settings in your DefaultEngine.ini file. If you delete all of them, it should clear up the issue though if you have set any project specific rendering setups you will need to redo them in the project settings.

Alternatively, you can post the contents of your Default Engine.ini file here and I can look them them and tell you what line to delete though if time is an issue, deleting them all is going to get a faster result.

I am not sure what happened, but something in the conversion process between the 4.9.1 and 4.9.2 for your project which might have set a variable incorrectly in your Ini file.

Thank You

Hi Eric,
I deleted all settings and test the game, but no change.
Sure, here is the *.ini file:

Also, I have a question about changing project name, I did it in Editor and after building our game, actually nothing changed, should I do it manually from above file?

Thanks
Sourena

Can you confirm that your Engine Scalability Settings are all set to EPIC and your Screen Resolution slider is at 100%? These settings can get changed when you upgrade to a new version of the engine as the editor will try to read the best settings for your PC, but it does not always do the best of jobs.

Hi Eric,
As you can see in above images, I’m running with standalone window, so engine default resolution and ratio didn’t change.

I’m using WIN 10 X64.
I’ve checked both engine config files from two versions (4.9.1 & 4.9.2).
*.ini files in both version are the same. (I have a backup from version 4.9.1)
Also, I installed the latest version of Nvidia GeForce driver.
Hope these info helps.
Thanks

I am getting a colleague to run a test on this issue with a Windows 10 Machine to see if that happens to cause an issue that I am not seeing in Windows 7.

Hi Eric,
We made a build with an exact machine and play it, in build version everything is fine and just like the normal 4.9.1 version.
So it seems that OS and Graphic driver didn’t change anything.
By the way, thank you for your effort and help.

Finally, I found the real reason.
“Editor scalability settings”
I don’t know how, but it has changed to some low-quality settings.
So as you can see it the images below:
the first image has current settings and the second one has minimum scalability settings for showing DOF effect in the editor.

All the best
