Unreal Engine 4.9.2 and 10 Preview 2 Freezing

When I am working on projects in engine, they will freeze up when I try to set up source control as well as a couple other places. For instance, I believe the last time it froze I was trying to open up a blueprint for a pawn. Seems like new windows (pop ups) are related to the problem.

Please help.

I am attaching the logs that seem to be related.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
This is happening on my MSI GE72 2QF Apache Pro laptop. It has an Intel i7 5700 processor, as well as integrated graphics (Intel(R) HD Graphics 5600) and an Nvidia GTX 970m. It is running Windows 10.

Hello SkippyNumNums,

I have a few questions for you:

  1. What type of source control are you attempting to use?
  2. When exactly does the editor freeze? Is it when you hit the ‘Accept Settings’ button?
  3. Do you have any custom plugins that you have installed? There seem to be multiple error messages related plugins. If you’re only using the default plugins, I would suggest attempting to verify your installation using the Epic Games Launcher.
  4. Did source control work correctly for you on previous version of the engine or is this your first time trying to set it up for UE4?

So I have somehow managed to get it working without freezing. So I can’t duplicate the problem. I’ll go over some things that I tried that didn’t fix it, some things that I think may have fixed it, and then I will try to answer your questions to the best of my memory.

Things that didn’t stop the freezing.

  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling the Engine
  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling the Epic Launcher and the Engines
  • Verifying the Install

Things that may have fixed it.

  • When I started the Epic Launcher today there were two updates that downloaded and installed.
  • I downloaded a program (Driver Booster 3) to scan for outdated drivers and update them.
  • My laptop has a strange (at least to me) graphics setup where it sometimes uses the Intel HD graphics of the processor and sometimes it uses the Nvidia GTX970m card. The default setting is to let the laptop choose which to use on its own, but I had changed it to default to the Nvidia card because it sometimes chose the Intel HD graphics for graphics intensive programs, and they would then run poorly. I have since switched it back to choosing on its own, and I just set individual programs to use the Nvidia card.
  • I went into the install directory for Epic and set the launcher and the engine ( a couple different executables in the engine folder ) to run in compatibility mode. I let Windows choose the best settings.

Answers to your questions.

  1. Git
  2. I believe so, however, it also froze at other times, such as when I was trying to open a component’s blueprint file.
  3. Unless some plugins download automatically, no. This is a vanilla install. I did try verifying before and that didn’t fix the problem.
  4. I’ve never used it before, either on this laptop, which is new, or my desktop.

I’m glad to hear that the issue has stopped occurring and thank you for giving information as to what may of fixed it. I’ll converted your comment to an answer and now I will accept it to the question as resolved. If the issue begins occurring again, please comment and the question will reopen.
