Startup Movie immediately cuts off on a packaged game

I’m currently using 4.9.2 and when I run a Packaged game, my startup movie gets cut-off after about 2 seconds of playing. If I run a non-packaged game, the movie will run to length. I’ve tried the editor/project movies options but they do not change any behavior.

I currently have my movie “LoadingScreen.mp4” inside of the “Movies” content directory and its 1280x720. In general, the startup movies options don’t seem to work correctly in regard to skipping and ect…

I’ve been following this thread here: MovieThread
However, my issue is a little different so I posted a new thread here.

I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks =)

Hey Devero,

I just tested this issue on my end using the same video file type and size, and did not get the same results you are reporting. Would you mind testing this same video in a new blank project, and providing me with the steps you are taking so I can reproduce this issue on my end?

Thank you,

Thanks for the quick response,

I created a new project (4.9.2) and used my existing video. The video worked perfectly in non-packaged and packaged game. It also recognized the skipping if the player clicked the mouse.

Now I will, go back to my project and see why its not working the same way. If you have any quick suggestion please let me know. I’ll come back with what I find. =)

Sounds good! Glad you can get it working in a blank project. To be honest, when I tested, I did not even create a Movies folder. I simple added the video by using the browse function in the Startup Movies option within the Project Settings menu.

Let me know what you discover.

Alright, so I got it working in my project.

Basically, I used the old way of doing the video back from 4.2 shooter game example where you loaded a separate module up. Once I removed that whole module and just assigned it in the editor it worked just fine. I checked both packaged and non-packaged version.

A side question, is there a way to make the video skip on a keypress also not just a mouse button click? Thanks again.

Glad to hear you got it working. As for skipping the movie, you should be able to skip the movie with the spacebar or escape key already, but let me know if this is not the case.

Cheers,

Actually by default “Esc” or “Spacebar” doesn’t do the skip. I tried this in the blank project as well to make sure I wasn’t consuming input somehow.

You are right, and you might need to program this option in, because I cannot seem to find another route to make this happen. I was thinking that perhaps you could create a new ‘Action Mapping’ key and assign it to open your first level. This should skip the opening movie as well.

I solved this by using adobe media encoder, and encoding the video to H.264 1280x720 @ 23 fps.
