Matinee lighting group animation doesn't work in PIE

UE4.8.3

I’ve set up a scene with a Matinee where everything works perfectly except for the animation changes I made to the directional light source in my level. When I scrub the Matinee window or hit play, everything looks great, but when I hit Play in Selected Viewport, everything BUT the lighting group plays.

Here’s a quick video showing this happening: (Notice in the first play the sunlight flips to light the other side of the ship but in the second play through, its dark on that side).

Any idea how to fix this?

Hi TorQueMoD -

Can you confirm a few things about your setup? Is the Lighting Actor you are using in the Lighting Group i.e. do you see the camera icon next to the Light Group? Is the Directional Light’s Mobility set to movable? When the light moves around the ship on the second pass, are you just rotating the light source or also adjust intensity values?

Thank You

Hey Eric,

I’ve since dropped that method and moved on to a different strategy due to time constraints so unfortunately that scene in its previous incarnation was deleted.
Yes the actor was in the lighting group, that’s the first thing I do to set it up - didn’t know there was any other way - and yes the camera icon was there.
There is a slim chance the light source wasn’t set to moveable as I started from an empty scene and just dragged the directional light into it but that seems strange that it would work in PIE if it wasn’t. I’ve also noticed on a statis mesh for example, as soon as I add it to Matinee, it automatically gets set to moveable. I was only rotating the light.

Hi TorQueMoD -

I was able to reproduce the issue you were describing by attaching a Stationary Light to a Light Group in Matinee. Stationary Lights are not updated automatically because the Light can be adjusted Color and Intensity-wise via Matinee with no issue.
