Merge actor mesh freezes unreal

Last night it took a few hours but merge actors generated a mesh for me and i placed it in the scene… saved up… and opened the project on another computer. That computer will not only freeze when trying to open that map… it will also freeze if i try to open up the mesh only… or even when i rightclick the mesh to export to a 3d package… cant do it… frozen program…

Any ideas why?

In order to understand this better I would like some more information from you.

1.) If you would link me a copy of your DxDiag?
2.) You said you tried to merge the actors. Are you merging after import or on import?
3.) How many polygons/tris do these actors have.

After I have this information I should be able to narrow down what is causing this.

What i am attempting to do is merge a large chunk of my level… many many models so i can do stuff with simplygon cloud for a giant lod sort of thing. It was huge. Comp at home finally made it happen after many hours. This comp at my job however is the one thats freezing on it. At home i did place it in the scene and everything nad save the map. Seems like at work anything that will reference this model will just hang at like 72 % for the mesh and like 60% for the map that has the mesh and other stuff in it. Wont move forward from there…

I dont know how many poly tris, but as i said its a major chunk of the entire level because im going to experiment with level streaming and building a proxy lod thing for it. Its a lot. But i have had no problem merging a million poly model previously… so i dont even know if i do or dont have that many.

By the way… this comp at work doesnt have any problems merging actors… i do it all the time… so something specifically here with this model is going on and im not sure why… first time i ever encountered it. Obviously pushed the tool to the extreme, but ive done worse when i merged the entire city from the infiltrator demo as my background lol.

Ok, yeah it does sound like there is an issue with that mesh specifically. I don’t believe we recommend merging half of your level. If you try breaking those into smaller areas are you able to merge the actors?

More then likely, though it really was just 1 building interior and exterior. I can merge meshes already. This was mostly just something to generate an atlas texture and the geometry to use that geometry with simplygon since im still learning simplygon related stuff… dont have access to simplygon inside unreal.

Still though it was odd that one computer was fine with the mesh… and the other not. Maybe some sort of corruption took place?

Hard to say without the native files.

Some info/tip: I’ve noticed that when my meshes had LODs, Merge Actors crashed UE. After I deleted LODs, it stopped crashing.
