Unusually high CPU usage on Mac OS X El Capitan

Hi,

As you can see in the attached images, I am getting absurdly high cpu usage while navigating around a simple scene in UE4 version 4.9.2 (up to 160% - not sure how that is possible!), which makes my Macbook freeze after about 20 minutes thanks to the temperatures going up to 100 C and more. This is my first experience with UE, so I have not tried it on previous versions of OS X on my machine. I have read many related forum posts and tried the proposed solutions, such as disabling the realtime rendering of the viewports, but nothing seems to work.

I have used resource intensive applications and games on my Macbook before, but this is the first time that I actually have to restart and wait for it to cool down.

Obviously, this makes UE4 impossible to use for me. I am considering downgrading to Yosemite, but I have no idea if that is going to help. Any thoughts?

bump because i have this we well. got better once i installed an SSD… but i don’t understand why the editor has to be so resource intensive. especially when the game view shouldn’t be updating since i’ve disabled ‘display realtime’ and turned down all of the settings.

Experiencing the same issue in Mac OS Sierra.

Experiencing the same issue in Mac OS High Sierra. The editor really needs work. There is nothing to do and it runs for its life.
