Do we need the UE4 logo on startup?

Hi,

so you know when you open an Unreal game you always see their logo.
Does this have to be there or can we, the developer, disable it before shipping?
(I know it can be disabled, but I wonder if there were any legal problems)

Thanks in advance

I am in the same boat… Wondering if we are legally allowed to display the UE logo?

Unlike with a custom engine license, the subscription license does not come with a trademark license, so there is no requirement to display the logo.

If licensees want to display the Unreal logo, they can enter into a trademark license with us to do so. We plan to have a FAQ entry about this in the near future.

HI, we’ll soon launch a new press center which will provide an organized way to access Unreal Engine logos, assets and style guides. In the meantime, you are welcome to access:

ftp://epicpress:AMTzN1YK@ftp.epicgames.com/Logos/UE4_Logo

Please do not click above. Rather, copy/paste the full link in your web browser. We’re working on resolving this formatting issue.

For static logos, download “Unreal_Logos_Style.zip” and for the animated UE4 logo, “UE4_Animated_Logo.zip.”

FAQ page updates are on the way as well.

Thank you very much for this answer

Thank you for the clarification. Was a bit confused as just about every other previous Unreal Engine based game I’ve ran has had the logo displayed somewhere at start up or at least within the credits.

Thank you for the download information. I know this isn’t my original question, but I might as well ask the follow up I have here, as hopefully it will benefit others as well. As I understand it, do we need to enter a custom trademark agreement to use these? Bit confused, as like I mentioned in a comment before, I’ve seen a lot of other Unreal Engine based games display the logo some place.

Yes, you will need to enter into a trademark license with Epic. The FAQ entry will explain how to get that started.

We’ve published our trademark license, logo downloads, style guides and such:

Sorry this took so long, everyone! Best of luck with your games.

Would like some clarification on this process. As a license holder, to enter into this trademark agreement, we simply fill out that the license pdf and email it over to the legal team? Will we get confirmation?

That’s correct. Afterwards, we’ll receive it, and you’re good to go. No confirmation necessary.
