Build looks different between mac and windows

I’ve built and arch. vis room in windows7 but when I open the project on a mac it renders (builds) with what looks like no global illumination (indirect lighting). Is there some setting I need to change to make it look the same?
Noob stuff here, sorry.

Hello Pete -

Mac’s use OpenGL to Render out the scene where as Windows use DirectX. This is probably the difference that you are seeing there are certain higher end elements which currently cannot be run via OpenGL on Macs. This will improve somewhat with the introduction of Metal in El Captaine. You can test to see if this is the case in Windows by switching your Preview Shader Model from Shader Model 5 to Shader Model 4 and see if the differences are what you are seeing between Mac and Windows.

If not please post a picture of what you’re getting in each version -

THank You

Hi Eric
Thanks for your post.
Preview Rendering Level has only one option on the MacBook Pro I’m using, namely Mobile/HTML5. Is that what you are referring to?

But that doesn’t seem to be the problem. It looks like the Mac version is not rendering out any indirect lighting.
I’ve attached 2 images - one from the Mac and one from the PC - to show what I mean. These are both after a build on High settings. As you can see, totally different. I’ve checked the resources and all the texture files are there.
I’m sure it must be my fault, but can’t see what I need to change.
Any and all help appreciated.

I am only seeing one picture, can you check your upload? And the additional option is only available in Windows, so you can see what the Shader Model 4 in Windows looks like versus the Mac version.

Sorry About that. Here’s the Mac version.

Are you using a Skylight in the scene? Is your Skylight set to Stationary or Static? The Spotlights and Directional Light are they Static, Stationary or Movable?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

There is a Skylight in the scene. I’ve tried setting it to Stationary and Static. When set to Stationary the scene is basically black with just the spotlights and directional light showing. When set to Static the scene lights up with a uniform light as shown in the macbook pro screen shot image above.
The spotlights are now all Static. I had some Stationary and some Static, but the result was the same.

It all renders fine on the PC, so it must be something to do with a Mac rather than the light type, no?

Pete

I am not able to reproduce the behavior that you are seeing in the shots above internally. Is there any way you can share your project with us to take a look at? You can attach or link it here, or, if you need to keep it private, you can link it to me via the Engine Forums.

Thank You

Hi pcoombes -

Just a correction from my statement earlier, Metal will NOT support Shader Model 5 for some time, this was from one of our senior programmers.

Sorry for the confusion -
