Adding new variable to a scene component causes crash

This is really getting annoying. My current project necessitates the use of scene components that have certain properties assigned to them, but every time I add a new variable, my Unreal crashes. It usually takes 4-5 crashes until the change actually goes through and it doesn’t crash for once. Is this a bug that has been resolved in newer versions? I can’t see any way to get around this huge obstacle to development as I’ve spent the past hour or so just adding a few variables.

Hi TommyZakh,

  • Does this occur in a clean, blank project with no additional content or is it limited to one project?
  • Is this limited to a single blueprint?
  • Are you simply pressing the “Add variable” button in the My Blueprint pane or are you adding variables by other means?
  • Can you post a copy of your dxdiag so I can take a look?
  • Additionally, can you post your callstack and crashlog here so I can see those as well? Your crashlogs can be found at \Unreal Projects\PROJECTNAME\saved\logs.
  • Are there any specific steps you take before you try to add a variable before these crashes occur?

Sorry for the late reply, I was a bit busy.

-Though I have not had the time to test this thoroughly, this seems to not happen in a blank project

-Happens to all blueprints

-Simply pressing add variable

-Not sure what that is

-Here are the last twolink text

-I open up the blueprint, add a variable, press compile, and crash

Your dxdiag can be retrieved by going to the Windows start menu and type in dxdiag.exe into the search bar. open the file that appears in the context menu. Once open, you can save the full version as a .txt and upload that .txt here so I can take a look. Additionally, try running a verify on your engine by going to your launcher>library and open the context menu next to your engine version then press verify. This will check to see if there are any missing or damaged files and fix/replace them if there are.

Can I send it to you directly as it contains some sensitive information?

If it would be more comfortable for you, you can private message me the information on the forums.

I can’t figure out how to attach a file to a private message, and whenever I try to attach a file to a regular comment, the button doesn’t do anything. Really sorry for taking so long, but it seems that I can’t attach anything to my messages here.

Try zipping the file into a . then press the paperclip icon within the message here. If it won’t upload here after that, you can upload the project to a dedicated FTP service such as google drive or dropbox and send me the link, I’ll be happy to take a look from there.
