Movement tool not on the object

After importing a .fbx from 3dsmax the movemnet/rotation/scale tool is not on the object it floats of in the distance. I believe it’s because I build off the grid in 3dsmax. But I was wondering if there is a way to lock in to the object or If I need to go back into max and move the object to the grid and re export
here’s an example of it

You can move the pivot by clicking the white dot with the middle mouse wheel, but that will only move the pivot temporarily. After you click off the static mesh it will reset to it’s old position.

The only permanent way to reset the pivot to change it in 3Ds Max and then re-import the asset.
