Houdini Engine Bug Nuked Project

Hi.

This morning, my project was working fine. I opened up Houdini to do some asset creation tasks - no link with Unreal at all at this point. Had some issues with H14 licensing, so switched over to local license. Went to open my Unreal project, immediate CTD with no log. Launched UE4.9.2 from the Epic Launcher, and was unable to get into the editor.

I suspect its something to do with Houdini Engine, as Houdini was the only thing that changed between closing the working project, and being unable to open it again. There is also a line in the log which points to Houdini engine.

The application crashes with the following log:

MachineId:487298454AD16489BB72D991FB1C2C23

Upgrading to 4.10 and migrating my content is not an option at this time, due to version specific plugs etc etc.

I really need to get this project open. We have a major delivery due for Dec 1, and rebuilding everything at this point is not an option.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Re-enabling H14 license server services.
  • Removing local licenses and returning to network licensing.
  • Uninstalling all versions of Houdini.
  • Verifying 4.9.2 install via Epic Launcher.

Any help?

Solved:

Turns out if you install the Houdini plugin, then uninstall Houdini - it completely breaks your projects.

Lesson learned:
Don’t uninstall Houdini!
