Importing FBX from old project to UE10 Issue

Hi guys,

In preparation of a new hard drive purchase I exported my project in UE 4.8 to desktop.

Read to re commence the project I am inside the UE 4.10 editor selecting the options to import the FBX data file from the desktop.

When I import it all I get is a static image of the previous map.

I resorted to all the forums which I couldn’t find any help on this particular one which includes a full project.

I am worried that either I am selecting something wrong during the import process or I have either selected the wrong options when exported the original project the first time around.

Before I start from scratch again which I wouldn’t want to do I thought would reach out as my last option.

Anyone know or have had experience in importing projects?

Hey Brancoq,

In order to safely update your project, you will want to update in single engine version iterations. In other words, you wouldn’t want to jump from 4.8 straight to 4.10 (and actually we suggest users remain on the versions they started on, and only upgrade when it is necessary i.e. being blocked by a crash or bug).

If you still have the original version of your project, you will want to launch engine 4.9.2 and open a copy of your project. Once this is done, you will want to check to make sure things are not broken. If they are, be sure you edit it before upgrading to 4.10. Now you will want to launch engine version 4.10 and open the copy of your 4.9.2 project version.

You might receive an error message about externally referenced packages, in which you can right-click on your Content Browser and choose the Fix up Redirectors option. This probably won’t fix everything, but it is a start.

Hopefully this helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you,
