Odd decal projection results

I’m getting odd results from when using a decal on my character. I’ve tried to make a decal for use as an indicator for unit selection. I’ve added the decal to my character blueprint and it kind of works. What I want is a simple glowing circle projected onto the terrain. What I get is kind of circle-ish but it depends on the slope of the terrain the unit is on. On flat terrain the decal shows up as two parallel lines on either side of the unit. On sloped terrain the decal warps into various circle shapes.

I’ve attached two images to show the effect in game and to show how the material is designed. I’m thinking it has something to do with UV but I don’t know. Any ideas?
