[Closed] IPA size much bigger when built on a Mac vs PC
We have been cooking/packaging our iOS game using a PC. Once uploaded to iTunes Connect the download size in TestFlight is around 63MB.
Unfortunately we discovered that metal shaders don't get pre-compiled if cooking/packaging is done on PC and we get some hitches in game as the shaders are compiled at runtime.
To fix that we tried cooking/packaging on the Mac. The hitches are gone during gameplay, but now our download size from TestFlight has grown to 129MB.
The shader cache more than doubled in size, but only from 400k to 900k.
Why is the cooking/packaging process on Mac creating larger IPAs?
