Uasset files wont show up in project in editor

Uasset files wont show up in project in editor. It was fine an hour ago… i went home with my portable hard drive… started up the project on my home comp… and suddenly the editor cant find materials for some of my models… the u asset files are there but the editor does not see them… What the hell just happened?? And how do I fix this?

Hi ,

  • Does this occur in a clean, blank project with no additional content?
  • Have you closed and re-opened the project?
  • Are these materials located within a developer folder? If yes, have you checked to ensure that your developers folders are currently being shown in the content browser?
  • Was the project created in a previous engine version and recently updated?
  • Try removing and re-adding the materials back to the contents folder via Windows Explorer. Does this cause the error to stop occurring?

To answer some questions.

-No it does not occur on blank crean projects.

-Yes i tried relaunching the project. Problem remained. Uassets in directory, but edit not using them for whatever reason.

-Not even aware what a developer folder is. Its a normal directory that I always have used… its a folder i named models … And hte directory is there… just hte files within it arent inside the editor…

-It was created in previous version, but it was already successfully updated to 4.10 a long time ago…

-Right now im not even going to bother with this attempt at fixing. I have already went back to a previous version of the project to save time. A possibility may have been the project was running of a hard drive that was portable and seemed to be dieing slowly…(sometimes files dont exist and sometimes they do when u plug it back up.) Maybe at that point the project somehow got corrupted i dont know… At this point its easier for me to just move on with a previous version of the project since that version has all those issues and im not going to sort through 80gb of data to see what does and doesnt appear… (could have other file problems in that project)

Thanks for the help.

Hi kurlo3d,

That is understandable and harddrive errors absolutely could cause errors like this to occur, so reverting back to a previous version may be the best course of action in this case. If this occurs again, please post here and I’ll be happy to take another look. For now I will mark this as answered for tracking purposes.
