Bug: Root motion movement does not retarget in 4.10

In 4.10 version of Unreal Editor, Root motion translation is no longer being transferred when retargeting animation from one skeleton to another. Instead, translation of the root bone is set to zero. The animation does not transfer regardless of retargeting settings (“animation”/“skeleton”/“Animation scaled”, etc)

See this forum thread:
https://.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?92573-Root-motion-does-not-transfer-from-mixamo-character-(bug-)

Details:

BrancH: Binary branch from UE4 launcher.

Build version: Version: 4.10.0-2758231+++depot+UE4-Releases+4.10

Repro steps:

  1. Import any character that has animation and “root” bone in its skeleton.
  2. Attempt to transfer animation to different skeleton using steps from here. Target skeleton should also have root bone, UE4_Mannequin would work well: https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Engine/Animation/RetargetingDifferentSkeletons/index.html
  3. Check root motion movement or translation of the “root” bone in resulting animation.

As far as I know, issue did not exist in version 4.8, but exists in 4.10. It is unknown if the problem existed in 4.9.

Hi NegInfinity,

This is a duplicate of the following Answerhub question: Animation retargeting ignores root - Character & Animation - Epic Developer Community Forums

This has been reported as JIRA [UE-23809]. Once the issue has been corrected and released with a future version of the engine, the original post will be updated so please track progress from that link.

Thanks,
