Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Urgent: Need help with packaging error!

Hi,

This is a project for my final year university project which is due on Friday this week so any help would be greatly appreciated! I need help with this one error I keep getting when attempting to package (shipping) my game. I read around and learned it might have something to do with needing to migrate the KiteDemo assets I added to the project (Could be completely wrong). I checked my contents folder and the assets are there so I don't think this is the problem.

Here are the last few lines of the output log that show the error summary in paste bin: http://pastebin.com/HimjtgAf

Product Version: UE 4.9

Hey Ahmed,

After looking over the amount of logs you did provide, this is where I see the issue:

 MainFrameActions: Packaging (Windows (32-bit)): UE4Editor-Cmd: [2015.12.08-13.34.24:373][ 0]LogInit:Display: LogObj:Error: LoadConfig (/Script/UnrealEd.Default__ProjectPackagingSettings): import failed for StagingDirectory in: (Path=

You may need to check what you have set for the staging directory. You can find that option in the editor by going to Edit > Project Settings > Packaging.

Please provide the full logs as a .txt file if you happen to make changes and run into another error.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Thank you for the reply Samantha.

I'm no expert so I was wondering what a 'Staging Directory' is and what I should change within it? My project is at University so I will check tomorrow and get back to you, thanks.

Hi,

So changing the staging directory worked, it built successfully but now I can't open the exe. It says failed to open descriptor file.

I tried everything suggested in this forum post:

https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/262680/failed-to-open-descriptor-file-error.html but nothing worked.

I tried changing the name of the file in the root as well as trying to open the file from the root folder which was

( \\infhomes1.einet.brad.ac.uk\aaabdul3\SOIProfile\Desktop\Deserted 4.9\WindowsNoEditor\Engine\Binaries\Win64 )

I also tried checking the for distribution check box in the packaging settings you told me about earlier, it didn't work.

Here is my log output. link text

I'm really stuck and only have today and tomorrow to fix this before I need to hand in this project!!

The most simple of things fixed this!!!

All I did was copy the WindowsNoEditor files onto my portable hard drive and opened the exe. from there and it worked!!

Thank you for your help, samantha! You can mark this as resolved.
