custom furniture configuration

We have build a successful renderer, but we feel using Unreal Engine could take our rendering to the next level. The hurdle is that a 5% royalty eliminates the profit margin for furniture.

Our renderer’s purpose is architecture/visualization. We are hoping then that we qualify for a free license. Contact me privately to view a working demo.

Your revenue is royalty free under the EULA if your revenue meets the royalty exclusions in Section 4. For arch/viz, the most common exclusion is work-for-hire or potentially linear non-interactive. On the latter, if you’re just rendering still shots or a non-interactive video walkthrough, there is no royalty. On the former, if you are selling a custom solution to a client for whom you are a contractor, there is no royalty on those work-for-hire fees.

We are selling furniture which can be configured online by the customer. We are proposing using Unreal. 5%, however, exceeds the profit margin for this type of business.

The royalty wouldn’t apply to the furniture itself. The term Product is defined as a product that:

is made using the Licensed Technology or that combines the Licensed Technology with any other software or content, regardless of how much or little of the Licensed Technology is used.

That wouldn’t apply to physical furniture.
