Epic Game Launcher Fails During Initial Download

So,

This is the problem I’m facing:

  1. Installing Epic Games Launcher (EGL from now on). Works fine
  2. Running EGL, fails, no error message, just doesn’t run. Solution: Tack on “-OpenGL” to the end of the shortcut
  3. When EGL runs it begins an initial download. This gives live feedback as to what it is downloading
  4. When EGL download hits 90% it switches from ‘Downloading’ to ‘Verifying’.
  5. When it hits 99% it all closes completely with no error message ← THIS is where I’m having the problem

I’ve attached my debug logs from DXDiag and the EGL Launcher.

My system is as follows:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Build 10240)
  • CPU: AMD FX-8350 4Ghz
  • RAM: 32Gb
  • DirectX: 12
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 960

Any help would be immensely appreciated. We are looking at starting game development but can’t really go anywhere until I fix this

Debug Logs for EGL and DXDiag

Hi SilverJad3,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble. Could you please try the following for me?:

  • Navigate to the logs folder and clear out the old logs.
  • Edit properties on the launcher shortcut and add " -debuglogging" to the end of the file path in the target field while removing the " -opengl"
  • Attempt to start the launcher.
  • Check the log folder

If there were logs generated, please attach them. If none were generated, please let me know. What antivirus and/or network monitoring software are you running?

Thanks for getting back to me Leebowitz.

Ok here we go, threw in the latest dxdiag for good measure:

DxDiag.txt

EpicGamesLauncher.log

UE4CC-Windows-6D78D5AB463586200B3E6C885F3FE342.zip

(the zip contains CrashContext.runtime-xml and UE4Minidump.dmp, wouldn’t allow me to upload .dmp files)

I meant to say that the network monitoring software is GlassWire. After being unable to install EGL the first time, I did a fresh install of windows so currently no AV installed at this point in time (don’t worry, its coming, just wanted to get this sorted first)

Hello again silverJad3,

Thank you for the information. Did the folder also contain a cef3.log file? If so, can you attach that.

Also, can you verify under the security tab of the drive properties that your account has has full control permission on the drive?

Hi Leebowitz,

The folder didn’t contain a cef3.log unfortunately. Everything that was there is posted up above :frowning:

My account has full control permissions on the drive.

Bump bump?

Hi silverJad3,

I’ve entered your issue in as JIRA OPP-4935. As soon as I have an update I will let you know.

Hello again!

I’ve been updated on your issue. Based on the crash logs the issue is with DirectX. The exact cause of the issue is still being investigated and unfortunately we do not have a guaranteed workaround at this time.

A couple possible suggestions are:

  1. update to the latest GPU drivers. The current version as per the NVIDIA site are 361.43. At the time of your DxDiag, your drivers are 1 version older.

  2. make sure that your OS is current by using the Windows Update to download and install any possible system updates.

Hi silverJad3,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes (the JIRA issue remains open, however). If you’re still experiencing this issue, please try the suggestion that I mentioned above then post back here with any updates.

Hi Silver,

We still have your JIRA ticket open. Any updates to your issue?
