Strange spring arm rotation

Hi,

run into strange rotation behavior while trying to set camera angle (spring arm rotation) to pitch=-90.

The logic is, then the pawn is standing behind an object and is hidden (top down view), change the spring arm rotation from x=0.0,y=-50.0,z=0.0, which is my default to x=0.0,y=-90.0,z=0.0. I’ve tried with location rotation and world rotation, the behavior was worst with world rotation even thou it was also happening with location rotation.

As you can see from the video, the camera starts to spin and in the end it seems to have rotated on all axis even thou only pitch has been changed in BP.

Some kind of workaround seems to be setting the pitch to -89 instead of -90

Hi ,

  • Does this occur in a clean, blank project with no additional content or is it limited to one project?
  • Do you have any collision on your spring arm or have it set to block by meshes?
  • Does this occur if you spin around as you do in the video in an area with no obstacles?
  • What steps can I take to reproduce this on my end?
