Material Preview Selection Broken

UE4 Version: 4.10.1-2791327+++depot+UE4-Releases+4.10

During testing a material I found that setting a preview and removing it randomly breaks the preview, causing it to get stuck until you re-open the editor. It will never update again and the node-view will also get stuck. I guess I don’t need to tell you that this is annoying.

Hi Xaymar -

I am not experiencing this behavior. Can you clarify what you mean by close the editor, do you mean the Material Editor or the Whole Editor? Also can you let me know what the reproduction rate for you are experiencing, is it 1 out of every 10, 3 out of every 5 or does it happen every time?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric,

with closing the editor i mean the whole editor, just closing the material editor or changing material doesn’t work. I can reproduce it about every 1 in 10 tries and I have not yet figured out what exactly causes it.

Sincerely,

Xaymar

Hello -

Just to rule out any easily fixed errors, can you run a verify check on the version of the engine you are using in the Launcher’s Library? Also make sure that you have updated your video driver to the most up to date, non-Beta Driver.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hey,

I verified the installation and it only showed that there were some locally modified files (engine settings?). As for the driver, this is the info it gives me:

Version der Radeon Einstellungen - 2015.1129.1552.28517
Treiber-Paketversion - 15.30.1025.1001-151129a-297019E
Anbieter - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
2D-Treiberversion - 8.1.1.1533
Direct3D® Version - 9.14.10.1162
OpenGL® Version - 6.14.10.13416
OpenCL™ Version - 2.0.4.0
AMD Mantle-Version - 9.1.10.99
AMD Mantle API-Version - 98309
AMD Audio-Treiberversion - 10.0.0.2

I’m pretty sure this is the latest AMD driver currently available (15.30.1025).

Sincerely,

Xaymar

Hi Xaymar -

Can you try to reproduce the issue again in a new project and as soon as it happens (after you get control back), follow the step listed below and post a copy of the Windows Event Viewer information:

Thank You

Hello Eric,

I tried reproducing the issue in a Blank project, but didn’t manage to get anything to happen. The issue is now also gone in the previously affected project, which makes me think it was one of the files that failed to verify. I uploaded it here: http://cdn.realitybends.de/UE_4.10[2015.12.15-18.50.51].7z

I’ll keep trying though and will report back if it happens again.

Sincerely,

Xaymar
