Morph Targets

Having trouble getting Morph Targets to import from Blender. I am using UE 4.9.2, and Blender 2.76b

I made a simple cube in blender, and placed a shape key on it. I exported this with the FBX exporter using FBX 6.1 ASCII. I unchecked the “Apply Modifiers” button and exported the file. Just to be sure I opened the file in Notepad++ and it appears to have Morph Targets in it. I also tried the binary FBX format, nothing.

I go to UE4 and import the FBX and selected Import as Skeletal. First of all your documentation says to check the “Import Morph Targets” check box (there is no such check box)

I left everything else default.

It generates the files, when I open the Skeletal Mesh in UE4 there are no Morph Targets listed.

In looking through the Mesh Details in Persona I found a check box “Import Morph Targets” I selected this and clicked on “Reimport Mesh” still no Morph Targets.

Hi wwestlake,

The option to “Import Morph Targets” is still available, but the mesh must be a Skeletal Mesh to import them. I’m seeing this on my end in 4.9 and 4.10 with basic Static Meshes and Skeletal Meshes that have the import option set to Skeletal show this. Bones and skinning are not required to import Morph Targets.

If you want to provide your simple FBX and Blender file I can have one of our guys on the Support Team that uses Blender give it a look and I can get back to you. As far as the work in Blender goes I’ve really only used 3Ds Max and Maya.

There is perhaps something that is not setup correctly in your Blender file, but importing Morph Targets is not bugged, so I’ve moved the question out of the Bug Reports section.

Thank you!
