Matinee just doesn't work half the time

I’m learning how to use mainee and I really like, it’s similar to a video editing software. What I don’t like, is that it just doesn’t work half the time. I’ve made one successful matinee scene and struggling to make another. I’ve added all the groups I need to add. Camera group, director group, I know how to get the camera to move. Pick a point in the timeline, move the camera in the viewport, and add keyframe to have it move. That’s how it’s been working for me. Doing the same steps, sometimes it just won’t move. Also, when I want to add a fade track up in the director group. my camera isn’t fading. Keyframe value of 1 at 0.0 sec then a value of 0 at 2,5 sec. There’s no fadin happening. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello SoraJr,

Could you show me a screenshot of your matinee track and some simple repro steps you are taking when trying to apply a fade through the director track?

In general, and everyone has their own workflow within Matinee, what I like to do is scrub the timeline to a specific point, create a keyframe, and then with that keyframe selected on the Camera Movement track, move the camera to my desired position for that frame.

Matinee How-To’s

The documentation should help you out a little as well, but let me know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Thank you for the reply. I’m getting frustrated over this, a fix that I found to work some times is to just delete the matinee that I’ve made and start all over. Usually the way I set movement, a fade, or change the FOV. I select a track; movement, a effect, or the FOV, then a time on the timeline. Changed whatever track I selected in the viewport. Then I’ll add a Keyframe so it’ll transition to that point, changing what I’ve selected. Here’s screenshots of one of my matinee actor

Also, where the camera is placed. I wanted to look out the window, turn left right left, and on the last left change the FOV from 90 to 65. But it wasn’t working, so I made a second camera already facing that direction and set the FOV to change

I would have just sent screenshots of the fading probleming I have having, but after I saved, closed Unreal 4, shut down my machine to sleep, started on it the next day and it worked all out of nowhere. Without me having to redo anything.

This honestly could just be that you are not viewing the matinee through the director track when switching back and forth between cameras. I have done this plenty of times where I was thinking it was not working correctly because I was not seeing any fading or switching between cameras, and it was that I did not have the Director Track selected.

Thanks,

I usually click on the director track when I’m finished making changes. The matinee displays in the little box in the lower right corner of the viewport, where I like it to be. I get lost too easily when the matinee plays in the entire viewport and not in the box.

I understand now when I’m not viewing the director track. This has to be clicked on, from grey to yellow, in order for me to see the matinee as a whole
