Importing vehicle meshes without bones?

I know this may seem odd to some but it would be far easier for is to maintain and import our numerous vehicle models across from Blender without having to rig them all.

In short, it would be much easier for us if the wheels where simply separate mesh in Blender.

I can see that older versions of UE4 used to have an import option called “Import Rigid Mesh” (see Bender to UE4 Car Tutorial Run Through - YouTube ).

Does anyone know if it is it still possible to do it this way using 4.10?

Hi!

In last version of the UE4 you need enable Import as Skeletal option for automatic creation skeletal mesh, using hierarchy of meshes.

Thank you taking the time to show me this with screenshots, it looks great but there are a couple of issues.

I don’t see the “Import Mesh” option and my it makes a separate mesh for each wheel (it is not combining meshes).

Perhaps my export settings are wrong, not sure.

I am using UE4 4.10.1.

Note: I am aware of the typo in the Wheel_Rear_Left name in the Blender tree in my second screenshot.

I got it working!

I had to make the wheels separate in Blender (they were linked duplicates).

Hope this helps someone else some day too.

Can you get the steering to work when importing like this?

Yes this worked fine at the time but I have not tried it on the current version of UE4.
