Office Holiday

Epic Games' offices will be on holiday from June 22nd to July 7th. During this period support will be limited. Our offices will reopen on Monday, July 8th. 

UE4 Crashing on Loading Project

It was working perfectly fine yesterday. Now when I load my project it gets to 95% then crashes. All my other projects work fine, just not this one (my largest and most important project) I then updated to the newest version of UE4 4.10.1 and still it crashes.

I will post my error log, this is very stressful. Thanks you for any insight. I have no idea what has changed in the last 24 hours.

After your crash occurs and your Crash Reporter window appears, can you copy your Machine ID that is located in the Crash Reporter window, and please ensure that you hit either "Send and Close" or "Send and Restart"? Thank you.

Hey Sean, as you can see from the image above, I don't have the options to "Send and Close" or "Send and Restart" I can only "Close the program" or "Check online for a solution and close". I also do not see a "Machine ID" in the crash report details only a "Locale ID" however, here is the rest of the data, maybe something below is useful?

Try going into your project folder and deleting the Intermediate folder and then attempting to open it up. If this doesn't help, you can also delete the Saved folder, but I'd highly recommend making a copy of it first so you don't lose an auto backups of your project in case you need to revert.

Didn't work. I made back-ups and deleted both, but I'm still getting a crash on 94% when loading the project.

Try verifying your engine, which you can do from the launcher by going to the Library tab and then clicking the arrow next to your engine versions Launch button and selecting Verify. If this does not work, you can attempt to migrate your assets into a new, clean project until you find out if one of these assets is potentially causing the crash to occur. Finally, you can also attempt to use one of the backups that are automatically saved in your project's Saved folder.

I re-verified all versions I have and attempted to load the project. It made it to 95% and hung for about 30 secs before giving me the crash pop-up.

How do I migrate assets without being able to open the project? And, if that doesn't work how do I use one of the back-ups in the saved folder?

You can typically grab your assets out of your project's Content folder and move them that way. The back-ups are just copies of your assets, so if you are able to find out which one is corrupted, you can replace it with one of the copies that were generated in your Saved->Backup folder.

I tried moving all the Content into a new Content folder into a newly cloned project, I'm STILL getting the crash at 95%, but the log seems to be slightly different than the previous ones. I posted it below.

You need to grab the assets one-by-one and put them in a clean project's content folder. Do not duplicate your current project. With each asset, open the project and then close it, and when it finally begins to crash you will be able to tell which asset is causing the issue. This can definitely be tedious, but it is the best way to determine the exact cause of the crash.

I HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE! OH GLORIOUS DAY!

So I cloned the project, then started moving content over in batches of 5's because my project is massive around ~30GB. So I get about half way down, moving files, Open the project. IT WORKS. Close the project. Move files. Open the project. IT WORKS. Close the project. And in one batch of 5, I have a folder called "Movies" which is where I store my mp4 files so that I can add a video on top of a TV screen and loop it so its looks like a real TV but with minimal resource consumption.

Turns out it was the movie folder. It will take about 2-3 hours to go back and remake the videos, but that beats having an additional lost day of production.

I have no idea why the videos became corrupted, I've had them since just after prototyping phase. So why the random corruption, I don't know. Anyways, this is considered resolved. Thanks for the help.
