Error 1603

I’m having error R-1603 with Epic Games Launcher. I have viewed a thread about the same problem and it says that updating to Window 10 solve it. But I want to keep using Window 8.1. Please help.link text

Hello Amethyst Lightsphere,

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. Other user have had similar issues and have followed the steps on this post to resolve the issue.

Please try the solutions provided there. If you are still unable to install the launcher, reply back and we will continue to look into the issue for you.

According to one of the comment on the post you recommend:

when the shortcut was created in my desktop, it was connectet to EpicGamesLauncher Win 32… so, up une level for directories and choose the Win64 version!!!

search for Epic Games / Launcher / Portal / Binaries / Win32 or V64…

But there’s no Win64 folder in mine. Also, in some other thread I see that the default installation ![alt text][1]directory people’s launcher installed in is C:/Program Files. But mine is C:/Program File (x86) instead. I can’t change directory no matter how many times I try.

Hello again,

The file structure may be different based on when they installed their launcher. Since you are doing a brand new install, your file structure is correct.

The pertinent part of that post is:

“Just follow the Tardygrade´s procedure, uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 (X64) and (X86). After this, run the Epic Games Launcher again.”

If this does not work, please let me know and we will continue to look into this for you.

Unfortunately, removing the C++2015 doesn’t work.

I’m having the same Error, remove or uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 won’t solve the problem.
I’m on windows 7… earlier version of UE4 installed smooth (4.8.x), this fresh install gives the same error: R-1603.
Any idea how to succefuly install UE4 version 4.10.1 ?
Thanks ahead.

Hello again,

I’m sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. I’ve done a little more digging in your logs and one of the errors indicates a possible problem with your .NET Framework. Please try the fixes present on this page then attempt the install again.

Please note that Method 1 does not apply to Windows 8.

The fixes you told didn’t work as well.

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas! Thanks for the effort putting in finding a solution for my problem. And Happy New Year!

Hello again Amethyst,

Happy New Year to you as well. I see that your system has an integrated video card as well as a dedicated one. Could you please verify that your system is attempting to run the launcher with the dedicated one and NOT the integrated Intel GPU? The switching software has caused issues for some users previously.

Hello again!

Any update? Were you able to verify that your system was trying to use the correct GPU? On my MSI laptop I have to keep it in “high performance mode” to use the dedicated GPU.

How do I check?

Hi Amethyst Lightsphere,

There has been an update to the 1603 error. Please visit this thread for the current workaround regarding that error.

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy. How do I verify that?

Hello again!

I apologize. I may have been looking at another log file when I was reviewing your issue. Your Sony laptop only has an integrated Intel 4000 GPU. As this supports DX11, it should be able to install and run the launcher. Your Intel GPU drivers are slightly out of date. Please go here and download the latest Intel drivers for Windows 8.1 6-bit. These should be version 15.33.42.4358. Once you’ve downloaded and installed these drivers, please try installing the launcher again.
