Light shafts are following camera

Having an issue where light shafts are either following the camera or is going straight through objects yet still being rendered in front of objects that are closer to the screen. In the image my directional light projects onto the area in front of the altar and yet the light shafts end is always below the screen somewhere that I cant reach. Another issue is that the light shaft only shows when the camera is directly facing the shaft, if you aren’t looking directly at the directional lights position the shaft stops showing.

Hi SweeneyPro,

If I recall this was fixed in 4.10 that was not working correctly in 4.9.

If you want you can give the 4.10 version of the engine a try from the Epic Games Launcher. You can set up a simple test scene and if you’re still seeing the issue feel free to post back and I’ll have a look.

Thank you!

Tim

Thank you very much, this is a university project that requires I use 4.9 but having spoke to my tutor about the issue being fixed in 4.10 and out of my hands I won’t be punished for it.

Ok. Glad to hear that won’t affect your project for your University.

Another option that may help if you’re familiar with them is using A Light/God Ray static mesh. This is often just a simple static mesh plane with a material setup that can simulate this kind of behavior as well. Epic has used them in a number of their freely available projects, like Sun Temple and Blueprint Office. Something to consider if you’re interested.

Good luck on your project!
