Multiple UMG animations crash the editor

When I duplicate an animation in the UMG editor and try to switch to the first animation. The editor crashes.
I’m furthermore not able to delete the crashing animations anymore because every time the editor crashes again.

Hello ,

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed set of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide screen shots of any blueprints/widgets that may be involved with this issue?

Hello ,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thank you.

We are still experiencing this issue in 4.10.4

Hello OptimisticMonkey,

Could you answer the questions that I asked so that I can narrow down your issue?

hmmm - Cant recreate in a new project. :frowning: Both projects 4.10.4.

In broken project, if you:

  1. create text widget
  2. create 2 animations
  3. create new track and keys in animation1
  4. when you select animation 2 it crashes.

Important to note the workaround is just to close the umg window and reopen , then select animation 2

Would it be possible for you to zip down and provide the project that you are having an issue with? You can provide it via drop box or google drive.

I just started having the same issue as and OptimisticMonkey tonight. Running 4.10.2 and so far I haven’t been able to reproduce it in a clean project.

But here’s my process for recreating it in the broken project:

  1. Create UI widget

  2. Place in at least one element (text box, image, etc)

  3. Create an animation (anim1)

  4. Add at least one key to anim1

  5. Click (left or right) on anim1

  6. Click (left or right) anywhere inside the animation tab to cause crash

Things to note:

  • For step 6, clicking outside the animation tab of the widget editor does not cause a crash, only inside the animation tab (blank space or other animations).

  • For step 6, clicking on the animation tab header, search bar, or ‘create animation’ button will not cause a crash (again, only blank space or other animations).

  • Keys can be created and edited without crashing (presumably since the key editor is outside the animation tab and is freely clickable).

  • Empty animations with no keys will not cause this issue, that is until I add a key to it and then it will cause a crash exactly the same way.

  • The only way to switch from a broken animation to another animation (broken or not) is to close the widget and reopen it since clicking outside the animation tab (such as to the key editor) does not deselect the current animation, and clicking back into the animation tab to select another will count as click #2 and cause a crash.

  • It is not dependent on how many animations there are, it will crash even with only one. This problem did seem to start though when I added a second animation to my original UI widget.

Apologies if any of that isn’t super clear. Let me know if there’s anything else I can provide. The good news though at least for me is that it seems like there is a way around the problem for now (close and reopen the widget when I want to switch which animation I’m working on).

Hello DreamGoblin,

Thank you for the additional information. Because these steps are needed to reproduce this issue in your project, would it be possible for you to provide the project mentioned in the post? You could do this by zipping it down and providing it via drop box or google drive.

Thanks Rudy - The project is happening in is huge. Let me see if I can get it to replicate in a smaller version and will post that

I have experienced the same as ‘OptimisticMonkey’, I created Animation 1 node with a simple text fade blinking effect using the alpha (3 keyframes), I then added a second animation which in turn made the editor crash. Upon restarting when I entered the widget and clicked either of the x2 animations the editor would crash.

Solution for me at the moment is to not use animations if it is this unstable, s I deleted the animated widget and created a new one.

From reading the comments above, are Epic games experiencing this, if so will the fix be incorporated soon?

Hello unrealaccount1,

Thank you for the additional information, however could you answer the same questions that I asked . Any information on how to reproduce this issue in a clean project will help narrow things down.

Sorry for the extrem long latency… but I tried it out again and wasn’t able to reproduce it, even in the project where it occured before. I even unzipped an old backuped version to try it out but no positive (or negative in this case  ) result.

Hello ,

I am happy to hear that this issue is no longer occurring for you. If it happens again please be sure to update this thread with the additional information.
