Possible to create a 3D Texture in UE4?

Is it possible to create a 3D Texture/Material in UE4, similar to the 3D textures in Maya, that would allow me to apply a texture to multiple meshes within a volume? My goal is to have a bunch of textured objects in a level and have a 3D texture applying between 3-6 different colors to all of the objects, in a similar fashion to what you see from photoshop’s render clouds button, but with lots of colors, not just 2. The colors would not cover up the textures that are already there, but would add colors to them.

I really wanted to use a 3D texture and not just color the textures outside of UE4 so that I can move the objects around in the editor and always have them matching up colorwise instead of having sharp edges where different colors start and stop.

Also, Ideally, I would want to be able to define what objects would be affected by the 3D texture, and to define how many colors the 3D texture used and what those colors are.

can anyone help this man out already it’s been a couple years now.

Could you post some reference images showing the desired effect?

Would also like to bump this. We would like to splat info into 3D-textures for our project as well and I don’t see any support atm.

I wouldn’t expect any native support for anything like this, UE4 seems to be all about a limited amount of features done really well, but things that are not essential goes. So if they won’t even support vertex lighting then I definitely don’t see 3d textures happening.

As of achieving what you want to achieve, I would suggest reframing the question into the desired result rather than the exact techniques, sometimes there’s other ways to achieve the same goal.

What you are describing sounds like MAYBE you could experiment with 3 different textures with Worldspace UV (with a component mask that makes one topdown, one side and one front). But without a concept art of what you’re tring to achieve it’s hard to tell.

Another person bumping this. A couple our of most important materials would be cleaner, faster and more powerful with 3D-textures. Can we get end-to-end support for these in UE4?
