Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Realtime preview inside mat editor doesnt work.

Materials will not update IN ANY WAY, unless I click save on them

I have a GTX 960 clicked apply and waited over an hour, and nothing Naturally automatically updated.

And the "shaders compiling" message finished its compiling within the first 2 mins.

Particle systems update instantly with the apply button like they should.

Hello Drenchedpuppet,

The 'Live Preview' button and the 'Live Update' button need to be enabled for this feature to work as you are expecting.

Thanks,

Andrew Hurley

Thank you for your reply. Please dont "resolve" questions within the same day you provide an answer your satisfied with, give me time too try what you provided. I used the method you told me before posting my initial question.

Heres a new video displaying the your aspect of the non-working feature. https://youtu.be/pwMS2szDjig

This question is NOT resolved.

This was not intentionally resolved, as sometimes when we type answers AnswerHub auto-accepts the response. Even if the answer is not correct, as long as you re-comment underneath the answer the question remains open. No need to clarify the issue is not resolved.

I am not reproducing what you are reporting here, so could I take a look at your 'dxdiag' as perhaps this could be an issue related to the components of your machine. Please attach the 'dxdiag' as a text file in your response to this comment.

Would you also mind testing this in a new blank project to see if this issue could be project specific?

Also, just in case you needed some clarification on the functionality of 'Live Update' and 'Live Preview', we have some helpful documentation on these two features. It also provides a nice shortcut for reducing iteration times when you don't want these options enabled all the time.

One way to test to see if the 'Live Nodes' option is working correctly, is to add a panner and see if the node itself animates the panning effect.

If you have further questions please let me know.

Thanks,

I opened a blank project, and still doesnt work anything like the tutorial video.

I have noticed an unusual occurrence. My preview will not update no matter how long I wait BUT, If I minimize the entire unreal engine, and wait 2 seconds it will be updated when I reopen the window. (Though the Inworld model with that MAT applied usually isnt updated.)

I have seen tutorial videos online where the unreal engine teacher also had too use the save command, to view any minute changes.

Im a confused why there is over 4 different "realtime/live" buttons that dont work, only node preview works(It wont go in effect until I click the save button) I hope its a bug on my end, or a toggle im missing.

So looking at your 'dxdiag' it seems you are at the minimum requirement for suggested RAM, and you are below the minimum recommended for processor. You can see our recommended specs by following the link below.

Hardware and Software Specifications

https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/GettingStarted/RecommendedSpecifications/index.html#recommendedhardware

I attempted to test this issue again on a machine very similar to your own which had 8GB of RAM, Windows 10, and an Nvidia GTX 960. I created a new blank project with Start Content, enabled the Live Update and Live Nodes options, and was able to see the changes made within the material almost instantly.

You also mention that if you minimize the entire engine and wait, the material editor will be updated correctly. I think this is where you dual core processor is coming into play, which is the only difference between our test machine and your own. The in world model will not update until you hit apply, even if the realtime update options are enabled.

Unfortunately, unless I can reproduce this issue on my end I cannot enter a bug. I will say there are known issues with Windows 10 which is why we are working hard to increase the compatibility and stability for users working with this OS. If you have further questions, let me know and I will do what I can to assist you.

Thanks,

Andrew Hurley

After installing visual studio and building the engine I gained the functionality.
