AMD Crimson 15.12 driver crash when UE4 left in background

So I’ve recently upgraded (month or so ago) to AMD Crimson drivers, and I’ve had this problem since upgrading to I believe 15.11.1. I would have UE4 open, just on a normal scene, and I would minimize the window and browse on waterfox for a while. Within about 20 minutes or so of browsing, my PC would freeze up and I would get the “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error. From that point, UE4 would crash and it’s corresponding Epic Games Launcher would too. I’ve first noticed this issue with Crimson 15.11.1, and I upgraded to 15.12 in hopes that the issue would be resolved, however that was not the case. I have my dxdiag report here link text. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi mango091,

Please see the answer here as they experienced the same issue: AMD Crimson Drivers crashing on Win10 in Editor and Game - Platform & Builds - Epic Developer Community Forums

I’ve entered UE-24826 in our system so that one of our engineers can get in touch with AMD to resolve the issue. As I told the other user experiencing the issue, please contact AMD to inform them of the issue. It is a fix on their end and the more people complaining about it, the more attention it will get.

Thanks for the help.

Hey mango091,

We have tested this internally and it looks like updating to version 16.3.1 (Driver Packaging Version 16.15.2111-160314a-300497E) fixes the issue for us. Could you give that a try and let us know if it’s fixed for you as well?

Cheers,

TJ
