Crash when importing models

Using UE 4.10

When I imported my models it crashed, I restored but they where missing models.
I deleted all imported models from engine and tried again…

It Crashed again, I even tried models that worked first time around and it crashed.

I saw that they still existed in project directory, so I deleted fom here aswell.

Tried again and it crashes on all previous imported models.

Is there a fix so I dont have to start project again?

Hello LiamGibbins,

Whenever UE4 crashes you see a crash reporter box appear you to enter a brief comment regarding crash and includes your Epic ID and Machine ID. If you would please link your Machine ID and Epic ID here. Then, if you would please write a brief description and press Submit. This way I can look through our database of reported crashes and locate yours.

Thanks,

I did this.
I have put my name in report in case you have a search by content freature

I have entered you name LiamGlbbins into our search. I do not see a report.

Again, if you would post your Epic ID and your Machine ID here I will be able to find report within our database.

Hi Liam,

If you could, please and attach most recent logs from project’s \Saved\Logs folder, as well as providing text from Crash Reporter window after reproducing this crash, including Machine ID.

It may also be helpful to get our hands on one of models that causes a crash for you, so we can attempt to reproduce it here. You can message with a download link, if privacy is necessary, here:

Thank you!

I have started a new project and imported just a few of my models, removed them then reimported and it crashes again.

Thank you for providing Machine ID and EpicAccountID. I was able to locate your report in our database. There appears to be an issue with 4.10 that regards a memory trample happening in FBX importer. This causes slow task to crash.

Would you mind importing your FBX into 4.11 and letting me know if you are able to?

I will start downloading it and see if it still happens… will let you know either way. .

Still crashing, I think that when it slows down on importing a large model another process is trying to open it before its finished with current on, its only explanation why I keep getting this is already open in another process…

Fatal error: [File:D:\BuildFarm\buildmachine_++UE4+Release-4.11\Engine\Source\Runtime\CoreUObject\Private\Templates\Casts.cpp] [Line: 11]
Cast of nullptr to Texture2D failed

Ok, I would like to test your model on my machine. In order to do this I will need you to upload FBX to Dropbox. Then if you would link that Dropbox here. If you are uncomfortable linking your FBX here then you can send me a private message on forums. This is done by going to our forums and clicking Advanced Search. On that page is a section to type in a User Name. Type my name in this section and from there link FBX to me in a private message.

I downloaded your vegetation pack and then unzipped all of folders. I then imported all of FBX files at one time. I was able to do this in around 8 seconds. I do not believe there is an issue with your FBX files. Would you mind posting your DxDiag (System Spec’s). You mentioned you were using an AMD graphics card. I would like to see if there are any possible hardware issues between your machine and UE4.

I am using a Intel graphics card but I am using windows 10 and I was having problems with UE4 until I put it in developer mode, this allowed me to load epic launcher.

There is a bunch of errors like this (below) in DXDiag

Hey Liam,

If you would send me a .fbx that is not working so that I may test crash on our Windows 10 machine. I have been researching into what is causing issue and I am trying to determine if this issue is Windows 10 specific.

You can either link a dropbox file here or you can send me a private message on forums.

Will do it Monday as I am away for weekend.

Were you able to add a .fbx to dropbox?
