unwanted colors over opacity on imported texture

so i made a texture in gimp, and a normal map in gimp which both have a transparent background. when i import them they both have weird added colors where the opacity is. if i double click on them they both look correct. Even if i make my material translucent and plug the opacity pins in, unreal seems to know exactly what was supposed to be transparent. The problem is, im trying to make an opaque material, with 3d text on top, and i need to get rid of the extra stuff on the text textures that unreal added. Does anybody know why this happened/ how to fix it? its happened multiple times.
