Scene Grid Position?

Does anyone know how this grid get’s positioned in maya?
I am importing an fbx as a skeletal mesh.
I want the grid to be at the root bone. But it’s down below it for some reason.

Any ideas?

The issue was that the model was skinned while it had some values in it’s transforms. The solution was to freeze the transforms before skinning.
