VR Headset support for simulation

I’m not an expert on this, so this is just my 2 cents:

  1. Oculus Rift will be better simply because you have a computer doing all the hard work (the calculations) instead of a smart phone (Gear VR). Then agina: if the world you’re creating is small, you might not need all that power.
  2. afaik you cannot connect 2 Rifts (or HMD’s in general) to 1 PC, As said, Gear VR does not run ‘over’ a PC but operates standalone.

Hello,

I am new to this platform and I want to create a virtual simulation which can run on VR Headset. Here are my questions:

  1. Which VR Headset is good to user? Samsung Gear or Oculus Rift?

  2. Suppose I am running simulation on my windows machine and there are two VR Headsets connected to it. Can I run the simulation on that machine as well as on those VR Headsets? If yes then how?

Please help me.

Thanks,
.

Thanks for the reply. Actually we have a case like, One guide will walk through multiple customers in the virtual space. The guide will use keyboard and mouse to control and can see the virtual space in monitor. The customers can see the virtual space using the VR Headset so that they can immerse in the space.

Do you have any idea how we can achieve this?

My best guess would be setting up a networked environment in which each ‘participant’ will have a pc/hmd. I only played around with networking a little bit, these video’s helped a lot in this:

Thanks for the link. That certainly will work for our case.

Also if I connect a VR Headset with my machine and run the application, will the simulation run on my monitor or it will run only on VR Headset? And can we control the movement using keyboard for VR mode?

Yes, you will be able to control the environment from your keyboard. The runtime 0.6 does not support direct mode but I think you should be oke with viewing the world on the monitor (although maybe also in stereoscopic view)
From your questions I gather you have not been working with the Rift before. Best you get started on that and get familiar with all the ins and outs.
Setting up an environment as your described will not be a click-and-play task.
Good luck!

Yes, it will be fine if the monitor shows stereoscopic view. Right now I don’t have the rift after some days I will have it and will try it to setup.

Thanks for the support.
