Marketplace Content Backup Doesn't Work

This is not so much a question as it is a heads-up regarding backing up your engine’s files. Say you have multiple computers or have just purchased a new one, and you want to transfer the Build 4-1-0 of the engine from one machine to another…

Upon installing the launcher without running it, you are able to backup the core files to a blu-ray and copy them to the new machine, thus only having to download 3GB in updating rather than 10GB with a full installation. With content from the Marketplace, however, copying the files to another computer doesn’t work at this time, as the launcher doesn’t recognise the presence of them, even when running Windows 7.

Users should be aware they must re-download these files from Marketplace if they wish to use them for reference, or Epic should add an “Import Marketplace Content” option in the launcher.

Hello,

Thank you for your report. We were not able to investigate this on the engine version you reported, but there have been many version changes to UE4 since this question was first posted. With a new version of the Engine comes new fixes and it is possible that this issue has changed or may no longer occur. Due to timetable of when this issue was first posted, we are marking this post as resolved for tracking purposes.

If you are still experiencing the issue you reported in the current engine version, then please respond to this message with additional information and we will investigate as soon as possible. If you are experiencing a similar, but different issue at this time, please submit a new report for it.

Thank you.

No; still the only way to make Marketplace content work properly after an engine reinstall/on a new machine is to re-download it.

There aren’t problems with backing up your levels/projects and adding them elsewhere, but it seems as though anything downloaded from Marketplace is organised in a different manner.
