Force Feedback on causes screen to black out

Hi,
I have an issue on the , as discussed in the Steam VR forums and the UE forums. When using force feedback, after a number of pulses (< 10) in a 10 second period, the screen on the goes black. If i disable the force feedback, everything works fine. Happy to provide a Steam branch with our build if required.

Hello LokiDavison,

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue is it that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. If not, could you provide a sample project so that we can take a closer look?
  4. Could you provide screen shots of any blueprints that may be involved?

Hi ,

  1. No. I set up a simple loop, starting when I pressed the trigger and vibrating each controller for every 0.5 seconds. It didn’t cause the issue. However if I called force feedback on game start, the screen went black in the instantly.

  2. Yes, how should I provide the sample project? Happy to upload our source or the built version.

  3. I get no action from the controllers with the haptic functions (I probably just don’t know how to use them), so I’m using the force feedback functions. I’m calling force feedback on overlap and playing a very short pulse.

Thanks.

If you would like to provide a project for us to take a closer look at, you can do so by sending me a private message on the forums. You can include a link to download your project via dropbox or google drive.

I’m checking if this happens with 4.11 preview, and I’ll send you the project if it’s still happening.

Hello LokiDavison,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi ,
I’ve been focusing on a few PS4 bugs and issue, as I’ve reported in the PS4 forum. I’ll be back to stuff next week, sorry for the delay. I’ve upgrade to 4.11 so I can check if it’s still and issue there. Force feedback is working fine with Move controllers.

Thanks

Hello LokiDavison,

When you get a chance to provide a sample project for us to take a closer look at feel free to reopen this issue and I will be happy to assist you further. For now I will be marking this questions as resolved for tracking purposes.

I’ve tested and this is still an issue with 4.11 preview 4. I’ll zip up the project.

Feel free to post a link to the project here or in private message to me on the forums and I will be happy to take a closer look.

Hello LokiDavison,

After downloading your project and trying to take a look, the project is failing to open. Could you check the project that was zipped down and sent to us to make sure that it can be opened on your end?

I just tried the package I uploaded and it builds for me. I’m running 4.11 preview 4 and compiling with Visual Studio 2015. That build has PS VR and support enabled. So you will need to have the PS4 SDK installed. I can upload a project without PS VR support if that is an issue.

Hello LokiDavison,

I was running through some tests for this issue again and I saw that you had offered to provide a project without the PS VR support. Would that still be a possibility?
