Reasons to use .Pak File for packaging?

Other than for patching, is there another reason to choose “Use Pak File” over “many individual files” when building a project?

Mostly to A: use a compression on the binary files that makeup your game (pictures, sounds, character/mesh objects) and B: prevent uneducated people from getting these assets for free…

In a contradiction to B, there’s always software out there that rips off easily. Here’s one example of a .pak extractor/unzipper tool that exists.
