UE4 Freezes Simple Tasks

I just downloaded UE4 today, and was messing around with some stuff. If I do anything that initiates a pop-up message such as enabling tile editing on world info or deleting objects from the basic blueprint creator, the whole client will lock up and freeze resulting in me having to force close. Any ideas? I noticed its as if it’s trying to cause a popup for confirmation or something, but it hangs.

Setup:
UHD 4k
Nvidea GTX 970M
16GB RAM
265GB SSD + 1TB SATA
5th Gen I7 5700 HQ 2.7GHZ

Anything in Windows Event Viewer? Trying turning off your virus scanner for just a bit… How about posting your DxDiag. Thanks!

DxDiag is attached. I updated windows and issue still occurring. It definitely is opening another window and then just locks up.

DxDiag

Anyone got any ideas? I really want to get this working.

How do I download earlier versions?

ve had a similar issue, actually… I think it might be caused by UE 4.10, cause I haven’t had the issue in previous versions, and it occasionally happens when I open something requiring a new window or tab.

Try downloading an earlier version, like 4.9? See if it still happens.

if you open up the Epic Games Launcher, go down to Library, and at the top you’ll see an “Add Versions” button. Click it, then click on the little drop down arrow and you’ll see a list of versions you can download.

Still freezing unfortunately, even with a different version.

Added a screenshot showing the ‘Popup’ that occurs upon freeze. I’m not sure where the error occurs but I’m assuming it’s anytime it requires a confirmation? the whole thing just locks up and I have to force close the application.

Have you updated the video drivers? The Nvidea looks old to me…

Just updated my drivers via GeForce Experience to the latest driver, issue unfortunately still occurring.

[RESOLVED]

After updating everything and ruling out that it was not a driver or outdated software issue, I started closing background applications one-by-one to see if there is any conflicts. After several attempts of narrowing it down I have narrowed it down to exactly one application that is conflicting with UE4, I’m not sure where the conflict exists, however it does, to prevent freezing in UE4 close out Nahimic for MSI.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Dear ,
You rule!
I can’t thank you enough! I’ve just started using the engine on an MSI GT72 ProG with Nvidia GTX980m 8gb and have spent the last two evenings trying to resolve this exact issue - tried everything, different engine versions, rebuilding from source, graphics drivers, windows update, antivirus, etc. Was just about to reinstall Windows :), when I went for a final search online and saw your post. Your fix totally solved this for me. Nahimic sound is totally the cause. Thank you for saving me (and hopefully others) a tonne of time!
Cheers! +100500

For future reference we have a Software Conflicts wiki page. Check here first when you run into issues like this. Nahimic was already something on our list.

Bookmarked! Thank you for the tip, . I didn’t know about that page - pity it’s not prominently featured in helpful link lists here on answerhub, or even on the wiki homepage for that matter. Also that page mentions 4.10 - but I tried 4.9.2 and 4.11p4 and the issue persisted.

Interestingly my symptomatology was also different than that described, with the editor only freezing when creating a new BP class - when the “Pick parent class” popup is supposed to display - and when clicking “Reset layout” in the Window menu. Creating new C++ classes worked (also with a pick parent popup :), as did other popup windows, editing BPs, the color picker and any other functionality I tried… Weird!

I’m considering removing the UE versions column. That column really represents where the bug was found more than a definitive list of where it occurs. I’ll look into getting it featured on the wiki homepage.

I updated everything, graphics card, got rid of alot of things that where eating memory.I DID every thing the posts said to do no more problems.

Every thing was on my end thanks for the help every one.
