Clicking CTRL+S makes the camera go backward instead forward

I’m learning Unreal and so I created a hall where I experiment and learn from the video tutorials. As a gamer I’m used to W, A, S, D commands for camera movement(holding the right click on the mouse in Unreal). So, when I click CTRL+S to save and then I try to move with the camera forward, it actually move back and it’s weird because it’s twisted. At first I thought that I clicked something wrong by accident but then on second it happened the same. And to fix it, I use the mouse to turn the camera facing on the other direction and then I use Q and E and then the S and W, I use the mouse to face the original side and it works normally as it should.
If I click the Save button on the menu everything is fine. Only by pressing CTRL+S has this behaviour.
Maybe this happens only on my laptop, so that’s why I’m writing just for checking if all have this.

I also “successfully” made the editor froze, but that was on UE 4.10.2, I have to check on 4.11.0, so I see if that’s not fixed. I’ll report and create another ticket if I reproduce it along with the steps how to do it.

I work as a tester for medical devices so I find the bugs easy :).

Hi

So hitting CTRL + S in game play or Editor?

Oh, it’s on Editor mode.

Done anything in Construction script?

No no. All that is done is creating actors, like walls, floor, ceiling on a new level. No scripting yet. That’s how I found the bug. Creating walls and flying around checking if there is a gap between objects.

Ok,

See what I can do, but need to see coding.

can you post the pics of your coding, handy you have so little.

I’m at work at the moment doing regression testing, can’t do that till I go home. I’ll see IF I can make video because I’m not sure pics can be of any help in this case. But I’ll try.

Hi Bekim,

This bug has already been reported and is being tracked in the following post:

Please refer to that post for updates on this issue.

Thanks,

4.11 P2 - The "S" key gets stuck - Feedback & Requests - Epic Developer Community Forums

Ok, thanks for that and glad that someone else did see it to prove I’m not insane ;). However, not sure that the S button gets stuck so for just in case, I would like to write down the steps I can re-produce this every single on my project. It took me about 10 minutes to find the pattern but I got it at the end, but I have to say again, it’s on my project, don’t know on other people. My project consists some BSP objects that create a hallway, Directional Light, Atmospheric Fog, LightmassImpotanceVolume, PostProcessVolume, Sky Sphere and Sphere Reflection Captunre. And I’m willing to send my project so you see it if that is of any more help, but it’s little big since it has the starter content, about 600MB.

  1. In the Editor Tweak little bit the Shadow Bias that is under Directional Light settings.
  2. Click Build on the top menu and wait till the Lighting is built.
  3. With the Right click of the mouse turn the camera on left side little bit.
  4. Click CTRL+S and wait till the saving progress bar finishes.
  5. Click and Hold the Left Mouse Button and observe how the camera goes backwards. When you let go off the left mouse button the menu appears and even when you hit the ESC button to remove the menu the camera moves backwards for a little bit (as long as the finger is held on the button)
Note: I have to actually click on all A, S, D, W, buttons to make camera behave normally.
One more , just to note that I have no coding on this project.
On my Firefox browser the page keeps jumping while I’m typing, don’t know if it’s my PC or the page. But in any case, that’s how the bug is re-produced on my machine/project. Hope it helps.

Hi Bekim,

Thanks for the additional information. I should have linked you to this post:

Please review the repro steps from that post to see if it is the same bug you are experiencing. If you do not think it is the same, please send me a Google Drive or Dropbox link to your project in a private message to me on our .

Sorry I couldn’t reply last night.
It seems that is the same or very similar bug, and you could see it too so that’s good, just in my case, the steps I described is how I can reproduce it every single . I mean, in my case I have to build the lighting first and do something and then press the CTRL+S to achieve camera misbehave. Since you have seen it too, you guys know how to find and debug now.
There is another bug I have found on 4.10.2 where UE would freeze, and the only way to get out of the frozen Editor is by closing the Project via Task Manager. but now can’t open a new ticket, I have a lot of regression testing today and can’t really check the exact steps how to reproduce it. Later I would be able to do that.
Also, you might want to check the site because the site is twitching up and down as I type this text. It reached the ‘bottom’ and you can try it too, by adding new comment and write a big text, and see it your self, to notify your web developers to check it. Sorry if I’m being detailed, just trying to help. My colleagues hate me too because I find bugs on their software, so welcome to the ‘hate club’ :).

Thanks for confirming this is the same bug, your feedback is appreciated. I’ve sent an email about the site to our I.T. department who might have better data on the site’s performance but I have not personally experienced any issues myself or seen other complaints reported.

No problem at all, I’m glad my feedback can help.

As for the site, the twitching is noticeable only when you write more than 12 lines on this comment field. Actually, You have to type more lines and force the text field expand bellow the bottom of the screen. Try by typing a letter and hit enter and repeat that many times and you will see the twitching on the page up and down as you type.
