How much in royalties do I owe?

Sorry for my english, I'm going to change technology I'm using from unity3d to U4 and need some clarifications about licensing. 1. Have I to pay a fee as freelancer ? for example I done the game and charge the client for $500, client push the game to the appstore/ earn $100 and pay 5% from $100. Have I also pay the fee from $500? 2. How it looks when the app doesnt make profit directly? For example when You will release web deployment and I have to create the app for furniture store, which will allow user to put the furniture in virtual room. Is there would be any fee payments? If yes, how it would be calculated (I dont suspect that from company turnover)?

You've asked a few questions so I'll try to address them in turn:

  1. No royalty is owed on work-for-hire fees, so your fees as a freelance developer would not be subject to royalty.

  2. If the product that you create as a result of work-for-hire is subsequently sold to the public, royalties are owed on those sales. The simplest solution is to make sure that the company that hired you takes out at least one UE4 license also, and then they can be responsible for the royalties instead of you.

  3. If the product that you were hired to develop is never sold as a product (but is, to use your example, a free app for a furniture store), no royalties are owed.

  4. No royalties are owed on the first $3000 earned by each product each quarter, and if no royalties are owed, no royalty report is due.
