UE4 Is Distorting my Normalmaps

I’ve created a 4k normal-map in Substance Designer, and have imported it into my project. However, the imported normal map is different from the normal map from Substance as it has a noticeable tear in the centre. This has impeded all work on my project, and I do not know how to fix it bar lowering the resolution. Help please?

Could you show the texture and the ue4 texture settings along with it? Could be some incorrect import setting.

Here is a screenshot. Thank you for the fast reply, by the way.

I see that you have uploaded an image but it doesn’t load. It only shows “alt text”. Could you try to upload the image again?

sure thing

Do you mean the really blue spot on the left side as the “tear in the centre”? I guess that spot isn’t there in the source texture. Some things come to my mind but no solution so far:

  • You could try to import a different resoultion and check if it’s still there.
  • Change the Compression Setting and see if it changes.
  • Is the normal maps alpha channel used for anything? If not you could check the “Compress Without Alpha” box.
  • Is it just an editor display glitch so it may display correctly in game?

I tired it at a lower resolution, and the tear disappeared. It’s just a shame that I can’t get it at 4k.

It should work with 4k textures. You could fiddle around with the texture a little bit more, like trying 4k-1 resolution (I know not power of two, just for testing). Is it just this one texture you have problems with or are there more?

Or modify the texture one tiny bit in substance and try again.
