Why does the whole program crash when I go to the material editor?

Even when I shut down my whole computer and restart, it still crashes for no reason. Now I can’t make my own material at all. This happens on other occasions, but this is where it started to annoy me alot. Is there any solution because it would be a huge help.

Which GPU and which driver are you using? And can you post the crash log please?

I don’t know what a GPU or drivers are. It just says it stopped working whenever I click on a material.

Hello TommyBoy_14 -

First you can run the command DXDIAG from the Windows Run line and it will output Informaiton about your Computer Setup and specifically your Graphics Drivers and Card(s).

There is a good chance that you are experiencing the known conflict in the drivers for the Intel Integrated Grpahics Cards. Downloading the newest version of the drivers which can be found here:

will fix your crashing.

I should note that other users have reported that Intel (or their computer/laptop manufacturer) is telling them that they do not need an update. If this is the case, please check to make sure that your driver version is below the 15.36.21.64.4222 driver number. If it is at that driver number and you are still having this issue, please let us know. If not, one user had to force install the new update by downgrading his driver to an older version and then manually installing the driver linked above.

Alternatively, if you are on a laptop that is using an AMD or Nvidia Grpahics Card, you may need to go into the Graphics Control Panel for your Video Card and set the engine (UE4Editor.exe) to always use the High Performance Card (this would be the AMD or NVidia Card), otherwise the crash will contineu to happen as you are using the Intel Integrated card instead of the other.

If on the off chance that you are getting an actual crash reporter window from the Editor and not from Windows, you should see a Machine ID listed in the Window, please post that here.

Thank You
