Mesh import with skeleton, wants to merge bones

When importing a skeletal mesh with the same skeleton as my main character I receive an error:

FAILED TO MERGE BONES:

This could happen if significant
hierarchical change has been made

  • i.e. inserting bone between nodes Would you like to regenerate Skeleton
    from this mesh?

WARNING: THIS WILL REQUIRE
RECOMPRESS ALL ANIMATION DATA AND
POTENTIALLY INVALIDATE

I click No, it imports; and while the mesh looks fine in game and I can assign this to the character through blueprints just fine, the mesh is not viewable in the editor. I’m following along with a tutorial like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE0g_djR12s

The main problem is I cannot view the mesh in the skeleton mesh editor, everything else seems to work and look fine.
